Dade County Public Library
The Dade County Public Library is located at 102 Court Street on Trenton’s Town Square, near the Dade County Sheriff’s office. Our new building offers a community meeting room, a technology lab, and a new children’s story-time theater space. The design of the library has included the work of local architect Jack Killian of Killian Clark Partnership Architects, ASID and LEED AP certified Designer Keri Tope of Davison Adair Design and a group of dedicated staff members.
In May of 1989, the Dade County Public Library on Trenton’s Town Square opened in its current location. The library contains currently approximately 27,501 volumes, including the latest best sellers as-well-as classics and traditional favorites of readers – both young and old. In May of 2005, the library moved to a temporary location during building renovations. The renovated building reopened to the public in August of 2006. Library director, Lecia Eubanks and past library director, Diana Tope along with Dade County Library Board of Trustees members worked and planned for many years the complete renovation and addition of spaces needed to allow the Dade County Public Library to serve the community at an optimum level. Those efforts have come to realization and on August 14, 2012 the library moved from a temporary location back to 102 Court Street. The new library offers a community meeting room, a technology lab, 16 public computers, an expanded Georgia History room and a new children’s Ready to READ theater space. The State of Georgia, USDA Community Facilities Grant Funds, Dade County and the City of Trenton have each contributed to the project.
Our internet accessible computers offer PINES library patrons access to the library’s collection catalog, Microsoft Office Suite, Galileo – a state provided research database providing genealogy database access, archived and current periodicals, and access to books. Public computers offer games for children and the library is equipped with wireless internet service. Anyone with a library card in good standing may use these computers free of charge.
The Sue Forrester Genealogy Room houses a special collection of books, microfilm, files and other materials needed for genealogical and historical research. While the collection focuses on Georgia, adjoining states are represented.
The Library offers Preschool story hour each Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with stories, games, songs and crafts with a literacy-based theme.
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) was started in 2007 and is made up of local high school students. TAB meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. The TAB members participate in fundraisers and young adult programs. The teens have organized activities and performed plays for the younger children.
During the summer we offer summer reading programs for children, teens and adults. The theme for Summer Reading 2013 is “Dig Into Reading.”
