Cherokee Regional Library

The Cherokee Regional Library system is composed of the public libraries in Chickamauga, LaFayette, Rossville, Trenton and the North Georgia Talking Book Outreach Center in LaFayette. The Rossville and Trenton Libraries have been renovated and updated in the last ten years, and the Chickamauga Library completed an addition/renovation in 2008. Plans are underway for an addition/renovation of the LaFayette Library. The libraries offer computers for public use as well as books, videos, and CDs for all ages, and a comprehensive geneology and local history collection. Classes to teach school readiness skills to pre-schoolers and activities for children and youth are the focus of family based programing. Space for public meetings, art exibits, and special museum exibits make the libraries centers for community gatherings and discussion. The PINES automated system provides access to the holdings of 282 public libraries thoughout Georgia, where books are available to PINES cardholders onsite or though free interlibrary lending, making some ten million books easily obtainable for local library users. The libraries are funded by appropriations from Walker and Dade Counties, Trenton, Rossville, LaFayette, and Chickamauga Cities, and the Dade and Walker County School Systems. Additional funding is obtained though grants from State and Federal governments, the Jewell Foundation and other foundations. Volunteers are welcome individually and as members of the Friends of the Library organazations for each Library. As centers for life-long learning, the Cherokee Regional Libraries are a vital part of the Walker and Dade communities.
